I never thought about it before as it just sounds like a natural word. But now that I think about it, “gameboy” is kind of a strange name.

It's apparently a pun on Sony's Walkman, which was super popular product back in the 80's. Project name was Dot Matrix Game.

Technically, it wasn't rainbow wasn't added until much later in Tetris' life. Most older systems had various palette restrictions, and the very first version was completely monochrome with the graphics made with text characters.
