We're going through one of those rough patches and the community is getting riled up again. Progress has been extra slow recently and it's unlikely to pick up. There are rumors that the PU teams have been stripped down to barebones crew to prioritize SQ42 development. This movement to not spend any more money until 4.0 is picking up steam and I was wondering what people felt about all that.

I've bought my fair share of ships in the past, but I'm not really looking to pay the prices that CIG are asking these days. I might join in on this just because I sort of agree with the statement. Progress is going far too slow and SQ42 is almost a decade behind "schedule". At some point we have to force CIG to finish it.

I've got enough store credit to get anything new ๐Ÿคฃ

People are justified in being upset. We passed reasonable development a long time ago.

It should be no cash till SQ42 though, because Pyro isn't coming before that. But I guess that doesn't flow as well ๐Ÿ™‚

TBH I'm just at no more cash full stop. I paid for the game (in like 2012 lol), bought a ship, subscribed for a bit before the lateness got too ridiculous... I've done my part of the transaction, and then some.

Their part is to deliver the game as described. I doubt they'll actually manage it if I'm being honest, but yeah. No more money.

That's fair. It's crazy to pay more than $100 for a game anyway. CIG really knows how to create an addictive monetary system.

I'll believe it when I see funding numbers actually change. So far, funding has only accelerated year-over-year.

I'm fine with people taking a stand. I just don't think it's the sentiment of the majority.

Yeah it's been crazy watching funding go up every quarter. $600 mill and counting baby! I think that's probably enough to finish a game, tbh.

Probably...

I haven't been an SC fan for that long so I guess I don't understand what exactly people are so upset about that they're trying to riot.

Tl;Dr a lot of changes they're working on halted a lot of progress leaps you'd usually see each year and people are wondering what's going on, and also a funding milestone got hit again (600 mil) which always riles up journalists and subsequently every person in the world. Also Starfield is driving a lot of discourse currently as it comes out in a week and there's crossover of fans.

But once those big changes come online the game will be in a far better place.

Their big push appears to be SQ42 and persistence which comes in a lot of stages (persistent entity streaming was first, but eventually server meshing). Idk much about SQ42 aside from it is essentially being explained to us that features there (star map/map, zero g revamp, flight modes) will be tested then put in the PU so it's important to get it done asap (besides getting it done because it's been cooking for so long). Naturally a lot of stuff needs to be done for persistence and meshing. It took them a long time to unfuck the servers after PES was implemented, so I imagine full persistence is going to continue the trend of slow releases and many testing cycles and many new bugs.

Ah that makes a lot of sense. Patch frequency has been a little slow lately, but there have been a lot of pretty cool changes since I started playing so I always kind of wonder where it all comes from. I guess there still are a lot of major features missing so I can understand why people are upset.

What is PES? Is that something for server mesh?

I think it's "Persistent Entity Streaming"?

Why must we see folks that don't play the game whine about folks that do every time the media makes a big deal about the funding which was willingly provided by folks that do play?

Oh, and before you lie, those of us that do play know the actual state of the game, as proven by the additional funding.

There do seem to be a lot of whining lately
