Greetings leathercrafters! Since makers tend to make more than one sort of thing, and we crafters need to stick together, here's a list of fellow creative communities for your navigation pleasure.

For each craft I'll include the current most active community first as well as alternatives, and add each with their full URL as well as local links for Lemmy and Kbin users respectively.

Posted with mod permission & I'll keep it updated as I find more relevant groups / smaller groups merge etc.

Craft on, people. Craft on 🙂

Neat! Thanks for taking the time to make this list!

On an unrelated note: How did you make these "local" links? Sorry if the answer is obvious, I just can't seem to find any documentation on how this wizardry can be achieved.

Thanks again! :)

You're very welcome! For the local Lemmy links you can use /c/community@instance which makes a relative link from whichever home instance someone is on.

The only issue with that is it'll give a 404 not found error if your home instance hasn't indexed that community yet, in which case you'll need to fall back on searching for it the old fashioned way to subscribe.

Someone from Kbin kindly let me know that it should work the same for them but with an "m", so /m/community@instance but I might have found a bug with that and need to get my Kbin-using husband to help me figure it out, so those links might update later.

Trying my best to make it easy for people but it's not straightforward! 😅

I won’t be notifying every time there’s a minor change but fyi, added a TON more links including more sewing communities, soap, tatting, woodwork & quilting as well as more misc crafting communities too.

Remember if you have a project or a post that fits more than one, you can just crosspost! It’s the little “two squares” icon underneath your post title, and cross-posting is another way you can help people find their way to related places 😊

Lol I put all this effort into the list and somehow forgot Beehaw even exists! Which is weird since my account was on there until The Incident. Thanks for the reminder 😄

Did you come across some design communities? I think that would be a nice edition to this list and good for learning. I’ll take a look what I find as well and maybe we could add to this post.

Thanks, suggestions very welcome! I didn't find anything like that on my first couple of trawls but am planning another expedition tomorrow to pick up any new places. Let's see what we can find :)

Can you add [email protected] to the list as well? I've gotten more interaction posting there than the blahaj one, and the kbin one doesn't look like it gets a lot of interaction either.

Sure! Last time I checked that one had literally zero posts haha.

I will say though, it might still be worth crossposting everything to as many places as you can for now because there's some weird federation issues going on again with .world specifically, and craft audiences are starved for content as it is without half of it going missing... 🙄

Yeah, I’m trying to revive it, and attempting to get it transferred from an absentee mod as well. .world did just update lemmy versions and I’ve been seeing fewer errors since then, so hopefully those issues get better! I’ll continue posting multiple places anyways though.

Thanks for maintaining this list!
