Is there a movie you think really nails the book, or maybe even improves on it? Is there anything you were shocked to learn was based on a book?

My roommate recently read Jaws and he said he can't believe it was made into a movie, and I attempted to read the first book in the Dexter series and felt the same way.

The obvious answer is The Lord of the Rings. The books are better, but the movies were probably the best you could hope for. I did like Blade Runner more than Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, though it was a very loose adaptation.

His Dark Materials! I loooooved the books but the show is even better, cried my eyes out so many times watching.

I mean it's Game of Thrones for me. I absolutely adore that series of books, and whilst the final 10 episodes of Thrones absolutely sh*t the bed, I still adore the show, worts and all.

Only issue is that I've not read the books in a good 11 years (since the release of Dance), so a lot of my memory of them is bound to be somewhat skewed by what I witnessed in the show. I'm hoping to fix that soon with a re-read over the next year or two.

I was super glad to learn that "The Expanse" was adapted from a book series.

I love the show and it's concept of hard sci-fi. The book (I have only read "Leviathan Wakes" but have the second book lying around here) is just as good and I definitely recommend both.
