Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished ~ Omen launched in Japan 36 years ago, a franchise that continues today with Ys X nordics, a game is expected to launch this year, at least in Japan.

The series follows Adol Christin (AKA Adol the red AKA red-haired swordman) or, to be more precise, the games are interpretations of the journals Adol wrote before disappearing on his way on a new adventure, trying to reach the North pole.

In this adventure, Adol drifted ashore to the coast of Esteria, where the citizens of Barbado Port found him and carried to the Doctor's clinic, once recovered he is called upon Sara the Fortuneteller Where Adol is told he has to find the 6 books of Ys to defeat the evil forces.

So, as a good adventurer Adol, started his quest to find the 6 books of Ys to save Esteria from the evil forces, this quest will end with him being transported to the floating island of Ys, where Ys II starts.

The first games use the "bumb system" where there is no attack button. The success of Adol's attacks is determined by his trajectory and/or the angle of impact; a head-on strike will likely cause Adol to take damage, but if the enemy is struck off-center or from an odd angle, attacks against it will prove successful.
