yes. This is due to the water content such as lime etc. This differs from Brand to Brand or through how much lead pipes your tap water flowed and how dirty your tap aerator is.

it is also what kind of minerals are in it. Like water for little screamers is very low weight and soft while tap water that has to much calk is hard and rough. A few years ago i read an article that it is possible to have a job where it comes to tasting different kinds of water like wine
yes, my favorite drinking water is the one in my hometown, straight tapped from a mountain spring... filtered mineral water just isn't the same, and purified water just tastes off imo
Yes. The content of various common minerals can vary by orders of magnitude across different sources. Though I pay attention to this less on its own and more in the context of brewing tea, since the water you use affects the outcome quite a lot.
is there a measure (and solution) for this?
test kit, mass spec, centralized testing?
my cold brew tastes faintly like tap water and it bothers me
edit: I already use a brita, my water doesnt taste like tap water, but my cold brew does, weird.
I’m sure there is, though I’ve never looked into it. If it’s tap water, the approximate range for some of the minerals is usually on your local water quality report.
Of course, it varies massively from one place to another.
Ours is fine straight from the tap here (north east England) but other parts of the country need to filter theirs. Scottish people will be at pains to tell you how amazing theirs is but also they're not wrong. On the other hand we road tripped across the US one time and while it was fine in most places I remember specifically the water in Oakhurst, California tasted of oil. It was absolutely rank. I now understand why bottled water exists.
the problem with bottled water can be seen by nestle, i know nestle is extreme but some resoivar* gets dry because of it and i think that makes the tap water quality worse like it does in africa but I AM NOT SURE
