Welcome to Geddit!

Geddit is a community that is created to offer people a new online home where they can safely discus their talks online.

The community runs on the latest version of Lemmy.

At first some house rules

These basic house rules apply on all sub-forums on this instance.

  • No spreading of fake news or misinformation.
  • Sexually explicit or violent media must be marked as sensitive when posting.
  • No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, or casteism.
  • No incitement of violence or promotion of violent ideologies.
  • No harassment, dogpiling or doxxing of other users.
  • No illegal content.

About Federation

What does this federation mean?

It means Lemmy is using a protocol (Activitypub) which makes it possible for all Lemmy servers to interact.

  • You can search and view communities on remote servers from here
  • You can create posts in remote communities
  • You can respond to remote posts
  • You will be notified (if you wish) of comments on your remote posts
  • You can follow Lemmy users/communities on other platforms that also use Activitypub (like Mastodon, Calckey etc)

Please note that a server only starts indexing a server/community once it has been interacted with by a user of this server.

About Geddit

Geddit.social is one of the many servers hosting the Lemmy software. It was started on June 18th, 2023 by @[email protected], who is also running https://mstdn.social, https://masto.ai and others.

@stux I've tried a couple times to sign up, but it just spins after I enter the Captcha. Am I failing the bot test? Or is Android mobile not the best interface to use when signing up? ๐Ÿค”

@lynneverson @stux I had the same problem trying to sign up for Lemmy.Social (edit: Lemmy.World) on blackout day. I never did get it to log in. I made a profile okay, but all I got was that spinning circle. Gave up there after a week, worked for me on Geddit.

@DavidMHarlan @stux yeah, could be a surge or spammer limiting thing...I may give it a try on desktop or after things settle down some

There are indeed some issues with returning error messages back to the front end in Lemmy. That should be fixed in the next update

For now I think indeed the captcha is wrong ;-) It's is also case-sensitive

For anyone searching communities to subscribe to, there is a good catalog just for this. I think this introduction post could benefit from including a mention of it.
