Dia dhuit agus failte! I am creating this community because I really liked /r/Ireland, but the decisions that Reddit admins have made regarding API access and the frankly awful way they have treated third party developers and the wider user base have left me wanting an alternative.

Simply put, the worst part about /r/Ireland was Reddit and the direction the company was going in.

So with that said, here is an alternative. A community for the island of Ireland, a place for Ireland and Irish people. I hope to enable discussion about news & current events, where people can ask questions, share memes, and just for general good craic and good vibes. Memes, shitposts, questions, discussions and news are all welcome.

I would ask people to not take the piss please, and if ye are going to post articles, please don't post paywalled ones.

Anyway, suggestions welcome. I hope you enjoy this community.

Signed up a few days ago, honestly I like it a lot so far. The only thing letting it down is the lack of userbase. I wish more subreddits just shut down and posted a link to an alternative Lemmy page instead

I came over this week. Still using Reddit too at the moment to be honest but I'm hoping lemmy catches on a bit as the community at the moment feels nicer overall.

I like the idea of the federation. I think it's a bit too complex to become main stream but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Definitely some bugs especially using jerboa but it's very usable and I love the simple UI.

I finally created an account 6 days ago, but I had been lurking the main page of both lemmy.ml and tildes.net for a while planning an exit.

I picked Lemmy because I already done the twitter to mastodon jump and liked the federated nature of it all. I think kbin's UI looks a bit cleaner though... might make a few more jumps yet!

Same, made the jump recently after trying to not use Reddit following blackout.

Have a kbin account too and jumping between them. Mostly on lemmy because of the app Mlem
