Great post! I love Vonnegut, and this is one of his best lectures. I remember the GB-BE cross taught in my writing classes in college.

Side note, I have a close relative who's an English professor, and met Vonnegut during one of his lectures. She described him as cheerfully smoking a huge cigar and blowing out the smoke at whomever annoyed him, despite the auditorium being no smoking.

Given how she related the story, I think she may have been one of the people who got a faceful of smoke...
