I remembered a few weeks ago when a user on this community shared a rumor that the DNR was possibly planning to repave part of the Hank Aaron State Trail where it is most degraded, specifically between Emmber Lane and the roundabout at 25th Street. I was curious if the rumor was true, so I asked the DNR about it via email and got this reply confirming that a repave is indeed planned, and in a larger stretch too:
Thanks for contacting me to help address this question. I do have a project currently entered for a funding request to mill and overlay the section of Hank Aaron State Trail extending from 6th St to 32nd St along Canal St. While funding has not yet been approved for the project, the DNR does see repairs of this section as a priority as the Department works through decisions on allocating project funds provided for trails and capital development projects in the legislative budget. There was not a specific line item included in the biennium budget, as trail and capital development projects tend to have multiple sources of funding so multiple projects are lumped together for requested amounts (with a few exceptions). While there are a number of projects the Department will be sorting through to prioritize, I am continuing to check in with our capital development staff to ensure this remains a priority for allocation of funds during this biennium cycle.
