I am really excited about them adding road wear and traffic accidents. And the new upgrade tool (called Replace) also seems to be really powerful. You can add things like parking, wide sidewalks, and even bus/tram lanes with it to existing roads, instead of all these being separate road types. So future updates can easily add bike paths!

I hope they left bicycles out of the base game to do them justice in a dedicated update. Everything that we know about the tools for car infrastructure so far can be applied to bikes as well. You're spot on.

What I'm excited about:

  • road tool grid and parallel modes (huge time savers)
  • drawing roads across existing roads
  • stacked roads!
  • parking availability and its effects
  • traffic accidents
  • removing crosswalks

It's like my wishlist got read! 😄

Same here, these are some great additions!

It might be silly, but I’m excited about being able to make better highway on/off ramps. It always drove me crazy that in unmodded C:S it was impossible to design realistic highway access because the roads couldn’t slope and occupy the same space properly.

So excited to have real support for smooth lane transitions! Just let me play already!

@llama @mermitian I may need to preorder this game even though I said I wouldn’t… roads just look fantastic

I'm debating if I should get the final hotels and resorts DLC. I'm finishing up my last city and it would really go so well with it.

@llama might be worth it! Considering that myself!

I usually never preorder, but am also really considering it for this one!

Man I might need to plan some time off from work around this game.

Love the modularity of the tools! It seems to fit right in with what we’ve seen with the city services. I feel like this setup makes a lot of sense & am super hyped!

My only qualm is now that ive seen these tools, i have no desire to even look at cs1 lol. Way too hyped

From the article.

How many new features can you spot?

The most obvious to me is the individual lights on in the office buildings. Great for realism. Didn't find many more, I might need more coffee.

Oh man, I'm trying not to get too hyped up about C:S II but the roundabouts and fine tuning crossroads look so good! I'm excited to see what else is new.

This lane snapping is gonna be revolutionary, I can already see how much easier it'll make networks

Roundabouts!!!

This is amazing. This might be the best gaming news I've read in a long time, and it's just a dev diary about roads. I really hope that if they put this much work into roads and road tools other parts of the base game will be equally developed, especially traffic AI, citizen simulation and public transport.

I know right! For a “basic” feature like roads, they had a lot to share.
