I think of Ayam as a good brand but it's a bit pricey.

Had anyone tried all the home brand stuff and have any thoughts?

Check out the ingredients list. Pretty sure Ayam listed ~90% coconut extract. Others range between 40-60%. So take that into consideration when calculating price per gram.

I find homebrand coconut cream to be okay, though it often contains a lower percentage of coconut extract compared to a brand like Ayam. The Coles and Woolworths ones are both around 75% vs Ayam's 100% and they use water and thickeners to pad them out. It's worth noting that other brands do this too, and some contain an even lower percentage of coconut extract. So if you are on a tight budget and can't afford the best stuff, homebrand is a good option.

Maybe I should stick with Ayam. I know it occasionally goes on special ..

Depends how often you use it as an ingredient, I guess. There are certain things I use rarely and don't mind paying a bit more for as a result, whereas coconut milk/cream is quite a common ingredient at home so I usually just go for whatever's cheapest.

I don't use it often and mostly for consistency/colour so I usually go Aldi.

Make your own. Plenty of easy recipes one Google search away -- https://www.google.com/search?q=coconut+milk+recipe

Takes a minute, tastes fresher, and is most likely a healthier option than those canned ones swimming in preservatives and whatnot.
