In our eternal quest to declutter our life we found an approach that seems to work better than "does it spark joy?".

"Would I take it with me if I were to move to a 1 room apartment?"

This sounds like a great way to end up with a lot of empty rooms AND constantly be annoyed at not having things you need...

The best alternative I heard was, "If there was poop on the ground, and this thing fell in the poop, would I clean the thing, or throw it out?" If I'd throw it out because there was poop on it, then it's probably not worth keeping in the first place.

its just do I need it. Can I do without it. Thats what I think. I try as much as possible to have my wants to be in digital format. games, media, etc.

Now I dont know much about simple living as a movement, but how do you then avoid digital cluttering? At least for me, digital bookkeeping had become a significant part of my daily work.

honestly it just does not worry me the way physical clutter does. Just have to keep the important need stuff easy to find but the wants can be cluttered as long as its digital to me.

The problem is when too many things spark joy 🤣

And I'm here thinking that I have too many things already in my 1 room apartment 🙃

For that the "would I clean it if it fell into dog shit" rule helps.

I'm currently living this comment. Moved from a 3000sq ft house into a 500sq ft apartment. Most of my stuff is still there and rather than hold onto it I'm just going to get rid of 90% of what's left.
