Went to the Alps for the first time this Easter and it completely reignited my love for snowboarding. Thinking about returning with UCPA next season and hopefully getting some lessons to improve :) I'm finding deep snow intimidating as a person mostly used to prepped slopes.
Shreddit but on the Fediverse
For snowboarders & those who love snowboards.
Great to hear! I was just in the French Alps in April as well, and got really lucky with three snowfalls during the week I was there. People said it was some of the best conditions all season :D

The key to riding powder is speed, and leaning on the back foot. Pretty much any board will be able to float as long as you do both of those things. Also, you won't be able to dig your edges in pow, which makes for a very different turning feel, compared to groomers. You basically turn by pressing your board against the snow under it, not by engaging the edges. Like everything in snowboarding, it takes practice.
Oh lucky! We had a ton of sun but fairly little snow fall. So a mixed bag for people going off piste.
I think I'm wary of deep snow because a) not really a lot of that in my home mountain range to practice(thank for the tips, they make a ton of sense!)
and b) well... I did a stupid in the alps and got myself slightly stuck in waist deep snow. Not in a dangerous way, but pretty darn dumb.
I'm totally down for some lessons and a guided tour in the alps though!
