Hi. I have an account on Lemmy.ml and I am trying to follow [email protected]. There should be posts as I can see them when I access the community on lemm.ee but when I open it through Lemmy.ml it doesn’t show the posts but I can see comments when I switch to comment mode. Does anybody know why this is the case? Or is this intended and is rollercoaster blocked on Lemmy.ml?

Using a web browser, go to your account settings. In 'languages' ensure that 'English' is selected. The posts will then be visible to you when you are logged in.

You've made this post in the 'afaraf' language, so you may as well deselect that while you're there if you don't understand it. This of course means that most people here won't see this post, ironically enough.

Also, if folks could stop parroting out the same bullshit 'federation delays' answer to every question, that'd be great. It's not that. It's actually very rarely that (even if you were the very first person to discover that community, which you weren't, it'd only take a refresh to resolve it).

Thx. That was the problem but not that English wasn’t selected but rather that undetermined was deselected for some reason. Maybe by accident when I set the language. Why my posts are made in the agaraf language no clue. I have no idea where I can change that. But thx a lot for the hint as it was actually sort of the solution/pointer me in the right direction :)

Okay. Well, if it's fixed, that's all that matters, I guess. I don't understand this desire to downgrade other people's answers into speculation, but it's not like this is the first time it's happened.

Language selection with Lemmy is pretty unintuitive, so others may be interested to know that OP is technically incorrect here. Despite what the UI says, it's actually impossible to deselect 'undetermined'. Whatever frontend you're using might let you, but the backend will just ignore it. I don't use this account much, but I used it here to make a very deliberate decision to send my earlier response using 'undetermined' as the language, so that OP would definitely see it, and the fact that they clearly did demonstrates for itself that what they're suggesting is nonsense.

Maybe it was something different but at least selecting it solved the problem problem for me. And I just used the default website from Lemmy.ml. And when i selected it it shows the posts and when I deselect it it doesn’t show it. So at least something it has to change if it’s selected or not.

That is how federation works. You're probably the first one to have followed that community. Though if you did subscribe to the community, the first 20 posts should be fetched. What do you mean by "comment mode" btw?

Oh and the community tagging format is: !<community.name>@<instance.tld>, so for this community: [email protected]

I did subscribe but I still can’t see any posts. Does it take some till they get fetched. It’s not an issue at all if it needs some time. I am just trying to learn how it works and what it behaves :)

When I check that community in lemmy.ml, I can see them though? Might be something to do with federation delays. You should be able to see the posts now.

Welcome to Lemmy btw. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Still nothing but I checked and funnily enough I can see the posts on Lemmy.ml but only if I am logged out. Maybe there is something wrong with my account. It’s really strange as it’s the only community where this is the case apparently.

Yeah, seems like something to do with your account. I can see the posts with and without my .ml account.

Oh ok thx for the answer. And with comment mode I mean when I access the community on the website I can either select posts or comments. That’s what I meant with comment mode. Sorry if I didn’t use the right term. I haven’t used lemmy that much but I want to switch more to it as Reddit gets more and more shit.
