There is pyramid-shaped architecture in Mali, but it's kinda hilarious how much the artist drew the three buildings in the back like the pyramids of Giza. The examples of pyramids in Mali, the opposite side Africa to Egypt, tha I can think of have that distinctive feature of the beams protruding out of the surface of the wall

Turns out there's a good reason for this: they are the pyramids of Giza. This illustration is from Khephra Burns' Mansa Musa, a fictionalised account of his life (illustrations by Diane and Leo Dillon). This image is from the bit in which he actually has travelled to Egypt
