Apparently City spent more this window than every other PL club, COMBINED.

I'm a little confused about why people are quite so disappointed we didn't sign anyone. The league is in Liverpool's hands. Maybe signing a striker would get us some points we wouldn't have gotten otherwise but there's little guarantee a new striker would win us anything. There's a much higher chance that Liverpool wins the league anyway, or that if they do capitulate, we can win it with Kai at 9 anyway.

I think we have a good and clear long-term plan that doesn't allow for big-money band-aid signings in January.

We have no depth which means we're gonna have even more injuries. Kai should not be a starting striker for a title winning team. We won't be a title winning team with him as a striker.

We are still in the champions league, even if the league is gone. These players are playing way too many minutes. With Martinelli's injury today we have only Trossard, Havertz, Sterling, and Nwaneri in our top three positions.

For me, it's because Arteta has been pretty damn clear we want and need one, we've been needing one for several windows, and also there's no guarantee that all our current options can stay fit. If Havertz gets injured now, what do we do? Play one of Trossard / Martinelli up top and put the other + Sterling / Nwaneri in every single game?

I don’t understand why Tel went to sh!t? Loan with an option sounds like the perfect plan for what we needed. Anyone know why the deal broke down? Sounds like we were interested.

James McNicholas says:

Arsenal were contacted by intermediaries to assess their interest in signing Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich. Although they are aware of Tel’s credentials, they did not view him as a No 9, and felt his relative lack of experience might make it difficult for him to make an impact at the season’s climax.

that's actually... pretty fair. he's 19. And spurs seems to be paying quite a lot for a guy who's just going on loan. I'm seeing that wages + loan fee is 12 million euros combined.

I figured they didn't want to take the gamble considering his age

Yeah, that's what I've heard. We were looking for a striker who can have an immediate impact. But Tel is still developing and it's questionable whether he will be able to jump right in as a top level forward.

So I can see why we didn't go for him in that context. And I can see why he would tell turn down the rolling clusterfuck that is Man United.

But I'm still perplexed why he would go to the spuds. He have probably been better off staying in Germany for now, and moving elsewhere in the Summer.

Maybe there's a chance for minutes?

From what I heard, our plan would have been good for us and nobody else cuz we didn't want the option, just a dry loan. Which is just typical of our current executives. Just take the option and if he's good buy him and if he's not then leave him lol.

Agreed. I don’t see the down side if there’s no obligation.

Well, looks like Santa / Father Christmas left nothing but a little lump of coal in our Winter transfer stocking. 😥
