A community to discuss video game modding.

While video game modding is typically associated with PC gaming this community isn't limited to just that aspect. Things like source ports/game engine recreations, emulation and ROM hacks, and even modding games on console all are neat avenues for discussion!

Guidelines:

Don't post lewd NSFW photos or videos. Discussion, in the context of modding, is allowed but may fit better in a different community like [email protected].
Avoid clickbait titles. Even if it means altering the original suggested title.
Avoid dumping links. The body of a post can be used to provide context, a summary, a question for community discussion, or additional sources for example.

Do you think the re-release of The Sims and The Sims 2 will result in significantly more mods being created for them? Any mod recommendations? What has been your experience modding them? (leminal.space)

A bit of a long wordy title but I wanted to word it in a way to foster open discussion. By mod recommendations I don't just mean mods themselves. It would be good to share resources as well. A lot of older mods have been archived together but plenty are still hosted on independent websites rather than hubs like Nexus mods or Mod the Sims.

I was looking at mods for the original Sims not too long ago and it seems like the scene has been pretty quiet for a while now with the exception of a few holdouts.

I'm not too sure how hard it would be to create mods for either game.

I imagine outfit overrides for The Sims will be relatively common because of The Sims Creator and I have seen plenty of object reimplentations in The Sims with them being hacked for additional functionality or reskinned but I feel like I haven't seen a lot of mods adding brand new content or functionality.

I haven't gotten around to trying to mod The Sims 2.

The mod in the attached photo is "Starfleet Career for The Sims 1" by Corylea. I think it was posted in 2021. Seemed fitting for Lemmy.

One mod I would recommend would is this autosave mod for The Sims 2.

Creates a dialog that pops up asking if you wish to save your game. If so the game will automatically be saved, If not the game will carry on with out saving. By default the auto save dialog will appear every 24 sim hours, Though the saving frequency can be changed with the Auto Save Game Manipulator. Their are two interactions on the Auto Save Game Manipulator. The "Change Auto Save Frequency" interaction will allow the you to change how often the auto save dialog appears, Right now you can make the dialog appear every sim hour to every 100 sim hours(uses the grocery dialog). The second interaction "View Current Auto Save Frequency" will allow you to view how often the auto save dialog appears.

I have to say, I think I'll replay the Sims 2 after seeing this post. I would love a job in the Fedration lol. Hopefully this mods easy to find and the games works on newer machines. 🤞

It definitely gets people over the first couple setup hurdles but apparently there are still issues. I believe most of them are related to things not scaling correctly but I wouldn't be surprised if The Sims 2 had the glitched shadows.

If you look at the Steam reviews you can probably find the specifics and fixes.
