Rewatching it. But it's cheesy at times.
I did.
Nothing beats kaiji in it's genre but Akagi from the same mangaka may interest you
Came here to suggest Akagi, it might also help to play a little Mahjong Soul to understand riichi mahjong. It's not essential, but rewatching Akagi after learning how to play was an enhanced experience.
Thanks. I will look into it. What's Manhaka?
Mangaka. Author.
Akagi is a mahjong manga. It assumes you know mahjong from the beginning. I wouldn't recommend it unless you really like the game. I barely made it 6 pages into the manga after someone gifted me a volume for Japanese practice.
If you want to see a lighter take on gambling, maybe Kakegurui or No Game No Life.
If you want death game stuff, maybe Btooom!. Mirai Nikki is also a classic in the same vein. Much more over the top would be the Fate series (Fate Stay Night, Fate Unlimited Blade Works, Fate Zero, etc.) Much less intense but still enjoyable was Death Parade. And we're getting pretty far from the theme but theoretically Sword Art Online checks the death game box; reviled by true connoisseurs ๐ท, I still think it's plenty enjoyable if you don't think about it too deeply.
If you're looking for something in the "psychological" category, I can recommend Psycho-Pass for something serious with action, Oshi no ko for something serious with drama ,or Kaguya-sama wa kokurasetai! for a lighter take.
Saw the first 3 suggestions. So I know the rest of these suggestions are going to be good :) thanks
Oh yeah, I'm realizing this late but I've got a feeling you might like twists on the magical girl genre like Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku. Puella Magi Madoka Magica was among the first and is all a fan favourite, but it's not the one I like the most.
Erased is a wonderful weekend binge and scratches some of the deathnote itch.
I liked that one a lot actually
High stakes life-poker stuff, huh
The only thing that comes immediately to mind is The Promised Neverland. It does get a bit gory at times, but there is lot of chess-like mind games happening in the background.
Quick follow up, watching it now!
Tell me what you think if it!
This sounds awesome!
Sounds like the "Death Game" genre.
Deadman Wonderland would be closest.
There is also a mountain of generic slop death game animes if you want more of that.
Yeah most of them are pretty bad at times.
Ever considered Monster?
Saw it. It was okay.
