Saw a couple of neat looking communities over on lemmy.world shared in newcommunities. I don't think they're federated yet. I thought if I followed the !communityname@instance link that would trigger federation of that community, but that doesn't seem to be happening (just getting 404). Am I missing something?

search for it using this: https://kbin.social/search and it should pop up. exclude the exclamation mark since that isn't used on kbin.

That did it! Thank you :D

I was looking under https://kbin.social/magazines, good to know I should use the search instead :)

the magazines page seems to only pull up stuff that's already synced. so if it isn't synced you gotta use the search page instead. though I ran into an issue where sometimes even that doesn't work, or it'll pull up regular search results rather than the magazine. so not fool proof. but it helps a lot.

Damn I was looking forever how to get some communities working. Thanks!

This is definitely a much needed information during onboarding (not sure if it was included already or if I've missed it).

nope I was also clueless until someone told me. there's pretty much no guides/documentation for kbin. maybe we could make a /m/kbinguide or something? to help onboard people. since a lot of this stuff is a little confusing at first.
