Adding gore to this game would be like shaking a bit of pepper on stale wonder bread

Still wouldn't make it any less bland and generic IMO. Gore wasn't the issue.
I agree, but also wonder how many other things were toned down or trimmed out for reasons like this. Keep trimming to appease everyone and you'll please no one.
To steal a line from Bob's Burgers, if this game's personality was a spice it would be flour.
The gore itself is how much boring the game is.
Probably for the better, though the general spacesuits as armor theme doesn't make the slightest bit of sense either.
I really wish one of the devs would come out and talk why they a-ok'd the RNG to be a single pass with nothing between POIs - also generated without a single thought about anything since, to me, that's the third biggest letdown of the game (the first is the universe/setting, the second is the main story, )
