I haven't had any break, ever, and I've made and sold hundreds.
Perhaps it's the wood type? I only use oak and hard maple.
Also looks like you're stabilizing them? Or what's in the cracks?
Epoxy tinted with ink for the cracks and then they're sealed with shelac.
Maybe. I am by no means a professional and just use whatever is handy.
I'd also worry about them scratching my table.
The metal is recessed. So the opener part and the screws never touch anything.
Pretty sure they’re for outdoor use.
