Palworld has been out for one year now, and it feels like the game has been plagued by controversies. From accusations of ripping off Pokemon, an actual lawsuit from Nintendo, AI art, cryptocurrency, and a previous game from the developer still in early access, is Palworld itself worth all of it?

Fantastic game, it's pathetic to see Nintendo sicking the lawyers on Pocket Pal juat because Nintendo was too lazy to properly compete.

I had fun with it for a wile. But i liked the exploration aspect of it, and i ran out of things to find in short order. After reaching i think level 20 all progress stopped, and forced me into base building and econ. Shortly after to build the rare equipment i found, i was forced into outrageous grind, like 2k ore grind. But to do that, all the support systems to upkeep the production imploded. Then i needed to breed acceptable pals, but breeding requires its own factory with its own manufacturing and its own Econ and it spiraled out of control.

And in short order i found the game is not about pal battling, exploration, base building, pal breeding, pal collecting, combat… it’s convoluted Factorio. One with competing tone whiplash. And the magic vanished that instant. Sorta the same thing happened with no mans sky.

Playing it with some friends.

Palworld very obviously takes successful elements from other games and kinda stews them together into something that’s now exactly unique, but is enjoyable.

It’s not a bad experience, but I also wouldn’t play it alone.
