This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".

Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.

[BB] I find it fascinating how Bloodborne portrays eldritch beings compared to other media (lemmy.zip)

Eldritch beings are typically portrayed as apathetic or malevolent beings that can destroy the world. However, in Bloodborne, eldritch beings are portrayed as either benevolent or just curious.

And while usually these eldritch beings are the reason why a town was wiped out or a town was corrupted, in Bloodborne it was man's actions that brought them ruin.

"What if we kill this eldritch being and slaughter everyone in the hamlet?" "What if we used its blood to heal the sick?"

I just find it fascinating how humans were the source of everything wrong that happened, when usually in these types of stories, humans usually can't fight back; at best they'll only delay the inevitable.

Well in Bloodborne they wouldnt want to destroy everything. It would seem they need people to propagate. A lot of Lovecraft stories have the ruin brought by human meddling too tho.
