It's taken years, but Google's smart home panel is almost everywhere. It's consistent, reliable, and my favorite Google feature ever.

My problem with it is that I want more than controls. I want to use assistant to do things with both voice and physically with the touch screen. They did a pretty good job of that with the cards style applets on early smart displays and now that seems to have gone by the way-side. If I want to look at a snapshot of the day with news, weather, appointments, reminders etc all in on page, or even as individual cards, I don't have that option. I don't want a glorified smart light switch with camera feed. And I don't necessarily need video calling etc. They're nice features to have but not relevant to me every day.

If that's all I needed, some smart switches and a smart speaker or phone would do.
