My wife uses Blender but bakes textures in Substance Painter. However, we no longer want to use Adobe products.

Can anyone recommend an alternative?

She tried baking directly in Blender but found the process quite challenging. Are there any addons you'd recommend for it?

She also gave ArmorPaint a try but didn't like it either.

Try out Marmoset Toolbag or InstaMat, which are 2 great substance alternatives.

For addons theres SimpleBake.

Just in case you didn’t know, you can purchase a perpetual license for Substance on Steam if your problem is the monthly subscription. Also the 2025 versions should get added sometime this month.

Yes, we considered this. But from what I understand, you pay 200$ for a version from specific year without updates. For example, if I buy 2024, I won't be able to update to 2025.

Yes, that’s true. But not a ton is added year to year.

I've been thinking of doing this, but Blender has gone through enormous changes in just the past couple year. I'd hate to buy Substance right before it goes through a similar growth spurt.

Well if you’re thinking of Substance here’s the important info I’ve recently found. The perpetual 2025 version will go on Steam in March, coinciding with their next big update. That’s when I’ll be picking it up.
