Generally, an artifact should be 100+ years old, but this is a flexible requirement if you find something rare and suitably linked to an era of history, not a strict rule. Anything over 100 is fair game regardless of rarity.

According to his Wikipedia Article, he died in September 1591 and never received the gift.

If it cheers anyone up: according to German Wikipedia, one of his favourite activities was getting shitfaced drunk, letting his buddy carry him on a large hill, then riding back down on a horse in full gallop.
