... It is relevant that they are a gay couple because it immediately indicates the circumstances of the crimes they committed, and their status as a gay couple was very relevant to their public life.

Pretty sure they don't. No source, but I'm pretty sure that homosexual couples don't engage in pedophilia at rates higher than gen pop.
IIRC, pedophiles generally have a preferred victim gender, but some will go against that preference given opportunity. Also, IIRC, the majority of pedophilic acts are perpetrated by male family members of female victims.
Right - there is a desire to turn ped into its own orientation because there is a gross over-representation of gay men in this category. Of course, they are not the majority, but their offender rate is wildly disproportionate to their proportion of the general public.
It is unsurprising to many when two gay men who adopt sons end up abusing them.
THis exact same thing happened in Australia with a gay couple that was celebrated - the very famous case of Mark Newton & Peter Truong. There were some old internet clips showing some exposes in Australian newspapers lauding them as a progressive couple back in the 2000s.
We can also point out that there seems to be major issues with grooming in the gay community - one of the more interesting examples is that of George Takei and Milo Yiannopoulos who, in the same summer, both told about their first experiences. Both of them had it as young teenagers with far older male figures, and Milo made the mistake of dismissing its relevance (if I remember right), while George Takei went on to say he was disappointed because he later say that the man who touched him when he was in his early teens went on to become overweight and frumpy (lol).
Interesting that’s the title doesn’t read “Pedophilic Couple Sentenced…” I guess the sexual orientation was an important fact. Maybe the Post is admitting that the default orientation for pedophiles is heterosexual?

Well, their specific marriage is a gay marriage, so they are a gay couple, right? I think that is the lgoic.
