I could probably look this up myself but i see additional value in engaging with this new community.

The most important function i am looking for is house members can see and create markers/pins on the map for others to see and optionally accessible using ios.

Could be wrong but I don't know if this is really a valid question? Organic maps is a frontend that uses the data from os maps. I guess if you have your own map data you'd rather use, you could fork organic maps and point it to your own map data? Maybe I'm misunderstanding though, so happy to be corrected.

I did misunderstand slightly but this might be better.

I mistook organic maps for open street maps itself but what i am looking for is in fact a front end. But one i can host on a local server so familymembers can access it on their browser or a app.

The map i would host would still be osm but my guess now is that any modifications like routes and pins would count as a second map in a top layer that i possibly could host?

Anyway i am convinced organic maps does solve my problem for ios mostlly.

One way i think i could pull off the functionality is by simply having a shared osm account logged in organic but that defeats the purpose of my server where such data is local.

You could export your bookmarks and tracks into a JOSM file and share that with your contacts.

Heck if you already host shared files for yourself and family you could set up shared josm file to sync automatically for everyone, although that might be too much, since people in the household/friends/whoever you share with might not want EVERYTHING shared

Organic maps is an android app that allows creation of markers offline in the app. So strap a tablet to the wall at home and you all can share markers. Unfortunately there is no sync or subscribe feature that I am aware of, so you won't be able to access those markers from any other devices for now.

As for hosting, this is not how that works.

I found the ios version of organic allows me to use an osm account to retain custom data but a third party account is my least favorite option.

Forgive my ignorance. How do people normally plan routes on pc (or the shared wall tablet for examples sake) then be able to see that on their phones on the go.

Organic Maps allows you to download your own offline maps from the openstreetmap database.
