I've always been bad at minmaxing, playing games mainly for stories and escapism. With Diablo though the whole fun is in progression, gearing up, etc.

After completing pre-season campagin on a Sorc and a Necro, I decided to go with a Barbarian for Season 1.

All was fine and dandy until around now. I am at level 51. Content in Tier 1 and Tier 2 is pretty much a cakewalk. Content in Tier 3 is frustratingly hard. I have no idea how to gear up, as most stuff that drops for me in T2 is pretty low compared to what I painstakingly grinded through many many death-per-dungeon runs trying Tier 3.

I leveled using Hammer of the Ancients, but got bored of it and switched to Whirlwind (which I have fond memories of). Problem is, naturally in Fury management. Unless the area is absolutely packed with mobs, I don't seem to be able to sustain the whirlwind for long enough. On T2 it's OK. I do some fury generation then get back to it. On T3 by the time I get the bar filled again I'm usually dead.

Any idea what should I be doing? Is there some harder T2 stuff that rewards better gear? Or maybe easier T3 stuff?

At the moment if not careful I can die to even roaming elites in T3, while in T2 I can sleepwalk through pretty much everything I've seen...

You should not have this much issue in WT3 especially seeing as you're level 51. I suspect you either have a really bad build or you're not making use of the codex to at least get the Legendary aspect that syncs well with your main damage dealer attack.

I would suggest taking a look at maxroll builds for example. You don't have to copy them entirely if you don't want to to bit it will at least give you good pointers on how to itemize your build and how to have synergies as well as how to play it. https://maxroll.gg/d4/build-guides?filter[classes][taxonomy]=taxonomies.classes&filter[classes][value]=d4-barbarian

Finally when switching to WT3 usually my first priority is to get sacred weapons with the highest DPS as it increases your attack power by a lot and males the content a lot easier.

Hope you'll be able to pull it off !

I've been following the build from Max roll to the letter. I think it may be my weapons... I even slotted proper aspects and still can't keep that rage up...

If the problem mostly about Fury regeneration, seems like you're missing some Legendary Aspect related with it in ring. On barbarian it's tied to shout skills usually

Thanks. That helps narrow it down. I think it's running out of fury combined with too long time to kill. I will look into both!

I had this exact issue with whirlwind. it seems like it's just nerfed to hell right now, I had such an issue even making it to level 50, let alone finishing the capstone dungeon. looked all over for more builds/guides and I heard mostly the same. I hope it gets fixed soon :(

I died once on capstone but it was mostly a smooth run. Still hoping I can gear through the hump

Whirlwind is rough without either the Bold Chieftan’s aspect or the Marshal Glyph’s secondary effect. Both is obviously preferred, but at least one is almost essential to make the build function in higher tiers. I waited to even attempt switching over to WW until I had enough paragon levels for a fully-powered Marshal Glyph, and it helped a lot.

You might have hit the nail on the head here. I have Books Chieftain, but a minimum one from running the dungeon. Still, I will try to touch it out and see if I can survive long enough to get better gear and glyphs.

Changing world tiers can be a little challenging. I usually aim for helltides and grit my teeth until i can at least get a couple of sacred/ancestral weapons. The power boost you get helps a lot. When dying, I aim for full defensive top/bottom and when there's a different kind of problem, in your case fury generation, I'd change build altogether.

Run wt3 and go to a stronghold, the levels will only be 2 above you. Run them until you hit 60 so you can equip sacred.
