Police say Ms Kobayashi is now considered to be "voluntarily missing" and is not in danger.

Well, no one really knows for sure where she is right now. Only that she safely crossed the border where our ability to track her is lost.

I hope she's alright and her family gets some kind of closure/understanding.

But, as an adult, you do have the right to "disappear," essentially. If there's no foul play, and she's a legal adult, she has the right to do this if she's willfully choosing to do so.
