Saying “The vibes are off” no longer cuts it, if it ever really did. Twitter is broken/has been broken/was broken/perhaps has always been broken, but more people than before seem to be draped in mo…

Everything this person wants function-wise is on the fediverse. Well, we don't have a great macroblogging service but Mastodon and Firefish can both be adjusted for long-form posts. We have a Goodreads replacement in Bookwyrm. People are quirky, and weird, and not corporatized. And no matter what service yu choose you can connect to the others. However... We're not a great fit for authors because we're hostile to self-promotion. So maybe something new is needed, or we need to adjust.

Perhaps bookwyrm could add a way for authors to link their own works in their bio, and we could use mastodon to promote ourselves? New to both, so maybe that's already there on BW, idk. But I'd rather see artists and creators promoting themselves than have ads and sponsorships and all that corporate bullshit.

Also, maybe idk what macroblogging is, but isn't there a blogger/WordPress alt for the fediverse? Could have sworn I saw one a while back.

Edit to add: bookwyrm is such a fucking fantastic name. Seriously. So much better than "Goodreads." I can't believe it wasn't taken. It's perfect.

@DharmaCurious There is WriteFreely, which is not great. There was also Plume but it is no longer maintained.

But yeah, author pages on Bookwyrm sounds good. I was also thinking a self-promo community on Kbin or Lemmy might help, if everyone agrees to just vote the "Releasing this week" thread to the front page every week. It'd be like a little catalogue for everyone on the threadiverse.

That sounds like the perfect solution, tbh.

Also, sorry, tried to Google it, still don't understand. I know what fediverse is, but what's threadiverse?

@DharmaCurious Blanket term for Lemmy, Kbin and Beehaw. With the upvoting those are the platforms that would work best for, and we could spend the rest of the week collecting for the "This Week" thread, with maybe a few popular ideas hitting the front page.

Oh, cool. I didn't know that. I'm assuming beehaw is another reddit style site? I hadn't heard of that one yet.

@DharmaCurious I think they defederated from lenmy.world early on.
