I signed up for an account, but when I go to login it says I’m using the wrong credentials. I’m using a password manager so I don’t think that is possible. Tried a few times now, and even tried to register again. Anyone seeing the same issue?
Loops
Capture. Share. Loop.
This community is to discuss the Loops project.
Loops is a short video sharing platform created by the developer of Pixelfed.
Feel free to post feedback, ideas or any thoughts you have about Loops!
For sharing Loops videos, you should check out : [email protected]
I believe you still need to wait for your account to be confirmed, you will receive an email after sometime I believe.
I can't make an account yet :(
The webpage OP linked says "We're not accepting new users at this time.", so it's not surprising. They need additional instances to take on the burden of actually hosting the content, as they continue the software development.
I don't like the amount of wasted screen space when accessing loops via the web. I feel there shouldn't be space for the yellow border on the left / right of the video, just make the video bigger.
Yes same, it feels like it was made for small screens, and not well tested for others, but at least we have a web interface that works for now, it will be fixed later
It's ok for how early it is but it needs a lot of work still (and content)
Yes, the app is reaaaally rough, and it really needs a web version (even TikTok has a web version)
I wouldn't ever use it but yeah that'd be pretty nice. Especially for uploading stuff since you can't record straight from the app anyway.
Well If they wanna be the next tiktok, they'll need recording and editing in the app at least. But yeah web version needs to be on the roadmap!
Honestly hope they don't aim to be the next TikTok. It'd be better to just be another short form platform and aim for feature parity. If they try to be the same thing they'll fall victim to some of the stuff that makes TikTok and YouTube shorts suck. If they are entirely their own thing but they have close-enough feature parity then they can stand as another option, not just alternative option. For the bad side of that, see YouTube shorts (compared to TikTok). For the good side, see Lemmy (compared to reddit).
Basically I'm interested but 99% of my screen time is on desktop, so I wanted to ask if there is any roadmap about a fully functional web interface? Anyone knows? Right now the website is just a dashboard to manage my account and nothing else, at least for me.
Yes, for now it will be really focussed on a mobile-first experience, but imo they HAVE to have a web version, to at least share videos to people who don't have the app yet!
Any Android app yet?
Yes there is! Loging to you account on loops.video and download the apk
I received the e-mail but it said it was only for the iOS version, and I'm on android.
If you log in to the website you can download the APK now
The android version has been out too!
The experience was not so good. Not usable.
Yes it's really rough for now.. I really hope it get better soon
Nails the experience of mindless scrolling entertainment, for better or for worse. Definitely still a beta product, stuff like dark mode and skipping already-seen videos haven't been implemented afaik. Still fun though. Hopefully there will be some way of interacting with it that doesn't just contribute to lowest-common denominator videos, and can push interesting and thought-provoking content above silly cat videos.
Why do people enjoy content structured the same ways as advertising?
What do you mean "like advertising" ? I feel that modern advertising just adapted from the content, not the other way around
Loops is just a federated TikTok, which is just corporatized vines with an algorithm.
The appeal of it (by my understanding, anyway) is that the content is more concise. It does it's thing quickly, and thus allows either briefer sessions with it (elevator ride, waiting for your food, etc.) or a session the same length but with a larger variety of content. With an algorithm (which loops doesn't currently have afaik) it also takes advantage of how your brain works in terms of dopamine being released.
Sounds like it’s made to be addictive.
Are you familiar with the concept of social media? Thats not a new thing, literally all of them are built on it.
