I am insanely curious as to the context here. Was he a time traveller? Did he grow the beard to hide some identifying mark? Is he a member of a cult whose perfectly manicured beards are the membership card?
Comics be crazy. Could be any of these and 100 more crazier things.
I don't think this was one of the ones I found myself, but based on the look, I'm guessing it has something to do with being a communist spy.
I thought the same thing. Facial hair used to be a counter culture things back in the 50s. Like, going outside without a hat was rebellious.
