I want to setup a wiki as a new Lemmy user guide that lists the popular instances we federate with and their popular communities so people can easily find their interests and start posting. How can I do this on Lemmy so that other people can edit?

There's a community on another instance called "new communities." Maybe you could make one called wiki and a couple of posts (one for instances and descriptions and one for local and one for other comms?) And people could add.

Also it could be good to link to the official descriptions of the larger instances - I don't think many people are being pointed there so I'm not sure if people are seeing it.

Lemmy doesn't have a wiki built-in.

The developers have indicated they wouldn't want to implement it, because of the complexity with federation: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/2959
