I'm using Gnome 47 and I can adjust the keyboard brightness of my laptop in the menu top right. I don't think, I did any special adjustments. Is this what you were looking for?

indeed, I do not know why I don't have it.
So I guess it's not a Gnome thing, but an underlying driver, HW thing...
but I cannot see background tasks either. I was suspecting it was something with the shell version or some missing shell extension :(
