  • 40 grams of coffee ground fine to medium fine.
  • 24 hours in the fridge.
  • Filtered with an Aeropress allowing it to naturally drain, and then filling the Aeropress with fresh water to rinse the grounds and drain again.
  • This clip shows the press pushing the remaining coffee through after draining twice and the previously drained coffee poured on top.

Cold brew really does need to be forced through an Aeropress though doesn't it?

I tried dripping mine through my usual fine mesh sieve, and it just got clogged.

I suspect that the coffee flavor oils are solid at cold temperatures, and clog up the holes so that even water can't get through.

And I wind up with a thin puck of very fine particles at the end of the pressing. No doubt a lot of solidified oils are trapped too.

I pour aggressively into the aeropress so that the fines settle on top. When I add the fresh water, I pour gently to not disturb the fines too much. I also don't stir for the same reason.

It's all going to be pressed through the AP filter anyway. I don't think it matters where the fines are.
