Sup, Chooms.

We've just entered the ultimate "fuck around and find out moment" in the annals of social media and the internet. This is more than just about a game, it's about a principle. Over the last several days, I've come to the understanding of just how conforming and communitarian the general populace are...and gamers especially. The hyprocritical nature of many of them is painfully ironic.

How many people rally and scream and shake their fists at microtransactions and call developers greedy, but condone the folks at Reddit for fleecing third party apps and effectively killing them because "they're a business and need to make money". It's the most ironic thing I've ever seen in my days as a gamer.

I was losing faith to be honest, reading through all of the replies I got for what will be one of the lasts posts on the Low Sodium Cyberpunk subreddit I will partake in...but then I saw a few folks link to this place, and a fire lit under my belly. A decentralized version what Reddit once was. An actual ALTERNATIVE. A few days ago I didn't think a place like this even existed, and yet...here we are, and I'm all in.

This isn't the only place however. You may or may not be familiar with a site called Rumble, which is basically the equivalent to YouTube as this is to Reddit. Granted, the platform consists of folks you may not agree with or like (conservatives mostly), but it is a necessary alternative, as is this place, because it's clear that the platforms we have come to know and use frequently aim to tighten their grips, control the flow on content they allow and monetize as much as possible.

That's not what the internet is supposed to be. The Net is an ocean. It should be free to explore...whether the waters are calm or turbulent. It should be up to YOU where you swim.

I'm starting to sound like Maximum Mike here, aren't I? LOL.

Anyway, I wanted to kick things off here by fully expressing my personal and professional opinions before I start attempting to build this place up. You who finds this spot and joins and contributes, know this and know it well...YOU ARE THE TRUE SAMURAI.

Johnny would be proud.

It always surprises me to come across the kind of gamer that just mindlessly takes whatever games are given without criticism or agency in the interaction.

Gaming is an artistic medium and an amazing interactive storytelling method. It is a thing that we build together with the devs and hardware modders and hacker types out there alike.

It's always been something we've had to fight for to defend and expand what it means to create our own worlds.

Johnny would be proud, indeed.

It’s most certainly been a learning experience that’s for sure.

Don't let it get to you too much. It's also just partially the nature of online internet communities. I'm sure you're familiar with the 90-9-1 rule. Lurkers never care, participants are hit or miss, but once those creators and community pillars start leaving, the entire structure starts to crumble around it.

But this isn't the 90s internet anymore, everything has so much momentum. Facebook has been dying for years now, but it still limps on.

I’m sure you’re familiar with the 90-9-1 rule.

I'm actually unfamiliar with this concept, but i guess I'll see it happen in real time...

That certanly covers and explains a vast majority of social media in general. Thank you for the insight!

I wonder if we actually need a LowSodium alternative in the Fediverse. Has anyone encountered much salt on this side? FWIW, https://dataterm.digital/c/cyberpunk2077 and https://lemmy.world/c/cyberpunk2077 exit, too, and seem to have some traction.

Of course, there is nothing wrong with giving people some options and seeing what sticks.
