Oz was barely in this episode, but it was reasonably strong nevertheless. Speaking of 'strong', the avclub has a real beef with Mark Strong replacing John Turturro, but it didn't bother me as much as them.

I don't like it when TV shows suggest that women could murder people in ways that a typically-built woman couldn't (strange them, and then hoist them up into a noose, in this case), but I guess it's okay since - in-universe - it's not a charge that's intended to be scrutinised much. There was also some 'drama school' depictions of cRaZy pEoPle in the Asylum that threatened to make things seem a bit silly, but it mostly managed to keep its tone.

At the end, I thought she was going to kill the kid, which wouldn't have made sense for her character, but that's the vibe my brain picked up on.

I've no idea how Oz is going to worm his way out of this one, so I'm looking forward to next week's ep!

I didn't mind Mark Strong replacing Turturro. Obviously he was younger, so a new actor makes sense. It was hard because Sophia didn't really look younger, but Carmine Falcone did. Although I just looked it up and Strong is only 6 years younger, so maybe they could have used a little more makeup since Turturro as Carmine looked much older. Either way it's a nitpick.

I'm actually surprised she killed the mother, given the loss of her own, but I'm guessing she might have written one of those "insanity papers"; plus it would have been a loose end.

Well that's the best advertisement for a carbon monoxide detector I've ever seen.

After the reveal that Penguin screwed her at the start this was the perfect time to get her backstory. Milioti obviously killed it. Although she still looked pretty good after six months of torture, but maybe that was just a way to show that she never fully lost herself (and she definitely lost part of it, see Magpie).

I know the show is called The Penguin but this is the first time I started to wonder, maybe he isn't going to make it. Oz has nothing. Sophia now has everything. That's probably how I'm supposed to feel. I don't want to lose either, but honestly I'm happy whomever wins.
