I totally understand that stance! I am still considering the right strategy to enable me to support Bean moving forward. I’ve spent a lot of time on the app and want to continue to moving forward with plans for other platforms, new features, and possible Kbin support.
Right now I’m swaying towards closed source with a subscription/IAP for premium features.
I’d appreciate a single IAP for most features, if possible. I’m sick to death of everything being some sort of subscription.
Of course, it’s totally up to you how you monetize the app.
@steve228uk @dsemy please dont go the subscription/iap route. I really love what you have got so far and I think there are ways we can support you without the app having to be limited to people who can afford that sort of thing / even have a card that is valid on their account
A single IAP would be ideal for me as a user, but I'd be on board with a subscription (in the $1-2/month range or yearly discounted plan like Apollo).
I tried a bunch of Lemmy apps, but this is the only one ticking all the boxes for me so far. All others always have 1 essential thing missing...
Monetization doesn’t mean an app can’t be open source. Especially on iOS, where sideloading apps is not something an average user really does.
But in the end it’s your app and your choice, and I respect it.
