Hey, previous sticky got too old: time for a new one. Would like to have a regular cadence, but not sure we have enough participation for weekly yet. We shall see!

Anyone want to share plans? Anyone with any questions?

Bite :) Hello, first post on Lemmy!

Just finished my first week back at work after a toasty week in a heatwave in Spain; my first international travel since the pandemic. I've got a few errands to take care of but looking forward to a spot of baldurs gate 3 and relaxing!

Oppenheimer is most definitely on my watch list, it's a fascinating time in history and the science is awesome too.

I've got to say I appreciate your efforts on kick starting a Scotland community Olap. I'm normally a lurker by nature but having witnessed the mass migrations from forums to digg to Reddit, it feels necessary to throw support behind Lemmy as the next evolutionary stage. Keep it up!

Thanks for sharing! And yeah, the Manhatten project was incredible, up there with Apollo, LHC, and Concorde. But I am a total nerd. BG3 looks promising, will pick it up in a few years I'm sure, but no time with weans and real DnD the now

I wouldn't normally pick up a game for full price in pre-release but the recent controversy around larians raising the bar for all RPGs made me break my Scottish cheapness :) I loved divinity original sin 1&2 and larian have earned my trust. To find the time for gaming nowadays is the greatest adventure of all!

Sounds like you've been busy! How did you cope in the heatwave??

[–] woofskin 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

We hid from the sun just like we hide from the rain! factor 50, hats and plenty hydration. Mid-week was absolutely brutal with 42 degrees forecast - stayed indoors with the Aircon on until about 10pm before going out that day.

Some of our friends up the mountains from where we were visiting had 48 degrees - it's just becoming intolerable. Kind of hard to argue about climate change when all you hear about is record temperatures being recorded :(

I can imagine!! Which part of Spain were you in? My dad used to live in the north and it was always a bit cooler there.

Yeah climate change is happening and no one seems to be bothered about making big changes.

South coast, around Malaga. Been to the region loads of times as my friend lives over there but this trip will stick in my mind. First time I've really felt that the sun was out to get us.

Where abouts were you off to yourself?

My last holiday, before covid, was in Nerja. I love it there!!

I had a big birthday this year and a really shitty time over the last year, so this summer we booked to go to New York. Was fantastic!! Not a very chilled holiday though, but amazing to experience and see all the touristy things!!

[–] woofskin 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I've never made it up the coast from Malaga but have been everywhere down to and including Gibraltar. There's nothing not to love over there (except the effects out drinking culture has had in the tourist areas :( )

Ah New York never a shortage of things to do. I found it to be like a long walk through all the 80s films of my childhood. My friends and I even did a little skit outside the public library in Ghostbusters honor but the damned camera didn't record it properly :( glad you had a good time.

Lol brilliant!! You'll need to go back and remember to hit record!!

Hi!! I love a blether so a wee chat thread is right up my street!!!

I too am just back from holidays and it was my first post pandemic trip! I get a bit anxious flying but I made it and just got back yesterday lunch time!!

I've finally got to listen to the new blur album too!! Loving it but can't sing all the words yet!!

[–] Olap 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Seems we need a weekly thread then!

The last album I listened tae wis the new Avenged Sevenfold: Life is but a Dream. Absolutely blew me awa! Not the Avenged of old, full prog rock. But not Blur either :P

I did learn that we're now in a post album musical age recently https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Album_era - seems I'm getting old

[–] linzid83 1 points 1 year ago

My OH says that he never listens to albums anymore!! I love the story of an album. I also still buy cds but I have nothing to play them on!!!

I was at Wembley seeing blur a fornight ago! It was amazing! I saw them once when I was a teenager, but that was 1997, so it has been a long time coming!! New album seems quite melancholy!!

Not heard of Avenged Sevenfold but I will see what I can find on Spotify!!

I'll start. Just back from holidays after the schools broke up. Caithness, Orkney, Inverness, and now home. Exhausting with two bairnies!

Saw Oppenheimer yesterday also, was very good

[–] linzid83 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hey!! How was your holiday?? What did you get up to?

Quite fancy Oppenheimer, but also Barbie!!

[–] Olap 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Loads e drinkin oan holiday wi the family. Bunch ae drunks I swear. Highlicht fer me wis the county show - a great famly day oot

An Barbie dis luik nae bad like, but suspect ah'll wait fer it tae stream. Oppenheimer was soo long alsae

[–] linzid83 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah might wait for the streams on both. Will see if anyone fancies them but otherwise, good to wait!!

Holiday sounds fab! Did you enter anything into the county show? Some of your bajing maybe?? Did the kids have a good time??

[–] Olap 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Didn't figure out how to enter my loaf sadly. And ah've nae cattle thankfully. An they had a ball of course, milking pretend cows, watching bike stunts, riding the shows, eating rubbish...

You doing any farming shows or fayres or galas this summer?

[–] linzid83 2 points 1 year ago

Aww thats a shame!! Maybe next year!?

The village I grew up in only has a gala day every 2 years because of costs, volunteers etc, and they are only on even years, so none this year! The farming shows have already past down here too. I get the class to enter some artwork for them and a few years ago, I was asked to judge!! Next big community event for me will probably be the flower show and its the first weekend in September!!
