We gave the first episode a go tonight but didn't make it past the introductory scenes of the NT cop. It seems like all the characters, barring the lead, are hyper caricatured for no reason. The lead ends up being some weird fish out of water, possibly meant to be a stand in for the audience, but it didn't work for us. There were a couple of well crafted jokes in the bit we watched like 'You're going the wrong way' but overall the cliche of 'endearing dumb Aussie people' characters detracted from what could have been an interesting show.

Banter and chat about the show you are watching - hopefully with everyone else watching the same show, or things will be confusing.

How Deadloch flips the Nordic Noir crime genre on its arse and makes it funny
(theconversation.com)
Yes this was very strange. I would say the rest of the show is very good.
Same. Wanted to like it and it was cool recognising a few locations but episode 1 felt so heavy-handed and so many grating, charmless characters.
Gets much better.
Cheers. I'll give it another go while I'm doing house chores. If it improves like you say I'll put it back on the evening watch list.
Just finished watching this, thoroughly enjoyed it, thought it was well written and acted, laugh out loud funny and kept us guessing until the end.
