Are CSGO workshop maps not compatible with CS2? Does this mean that the 200+ custom workshop maps I have collected over the years are now no longer playable?

I cannot see any workshop maps in the game menu that I have subscribed and downloaded. I even tried to reinstall CS2 on my computer to see if that will fix the problem.

I am running CS2 on Ubuntu (Linux)

It’s a new engine, all maps have had to be reworked, even the official maps. Most games with mods even break those mods with small routine updates. So no, CS:GO is gone, and so is all of its content. There are plenty of new maps and training routines in the CS2 workshop.

Why did they update CSGO into CS2 instead of releasing CS2 as a new game?

Oh yeah sure let’s just have two games that are almost identical, split the efforts of the devs into maintaining them both and releasing consistent updates, split the efforts of the server administrators into maintaining them both, and detract from your concurrent player base from our new game to keep our old game on life support.

Yall are some crybabies. CS:GO was alive for 10 years, CS2 has been out for 1. It took some time to re-work Dust 2 and add it back into the map pool. I miss agency, I miss cache, but those maps are being reworked and added in over time. It’s a long game scenario here. Give it time and enjoy the free to play game that they sunk a shitload of resources into dramatically improving, that they are going to maintain for at least another decade, just like the last game.

Wow, you need chill out. Just asking a simple question.

likely to force the community into playtesting cs2, if they had left csgo up it probably would have split the playerbase at first and they wanted everyone on the new game playtesting it

At this point I doubt valve knows. I miss agency

Is it hard for modders to update their CSGO maps to work in CS2?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Sadly, yes. I've been following a few efforts and everything needs to be rebuilt. What little auto tooling exists creates more issues than it's worth. This is why we've seen cache take so long to recreate.

There have been some, especially smaller, maps remade but once more they've got way too many issues to be put into mainline CS yet. This is why we only have had two new maps since the beginning. It takes immense dedication from talented map builders.

Even simple surf maps have been a major pain with ramp bugs being common on even the best, and smallest

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

i thought the ramp bugs are because people have only used auto tools to convert them for the most part and new maps with ramps dont have them

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Sadly not entirely. Some were small differences in the size and shape of ramps particularly where they conjoin which is what caused alot of them but even with new, perfect placement it's still happening. What's caused them to be greatly minified is a manual fix that checks for major changes in velocity in a direction not expected then adjusts for it server side, resetting your position, momentum, and direction to what was likely your intended route. This is still, frustratingly, not perfect especially with high ping

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

hmm I see. honestly used to love surfing it really pisses me off that they fucked it up so badly and didn't fix it before forcing everyone onto it but it is what it is I guess

So no, CS:GO is gone, and so is all of its content

You can still launch CS:GO and play on community servers
