Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.

This will happen with posts, too, not just comments. Thanks for any help. I love the app and know not everything will work flawlessly immediately, but I'm curious to know what's going on as it is quite frequent for me

It's a placeholder for a graphic or emoji. If somebody uses a symbol or an emoji and your device doesn't have it or support it, it gets replaced by that symbol, it shouldn't have to do with the app.

But in this case someone put their cats' pictures in the comment, so it's definitely not an emoji. Thanks for taking the time to answer, though :)

OBJ stands for object, which is just a fancy name for a file in programming. What you see displayed is a placeholder for whatever file was meant to show there, probably a picture. Most likely the file failed to get loaded/fetched and could not be displayed. Beyond that I don't think I can provide a more specific reason.

My best guess is emojis from a different system than yours. For example some apple only emojis.

Edit: or maybe a picture format not supported

apple only emojis

Why is that even a thing? Isn't Unicode enough?

I think instead of the OBJ box you should see an Emoji. I get that sometimes, too. I don't know if it's a bug or has something to do with Unicode.

Not an emoji, the person included pictures of their cats here. Thanks for answering, though.

Ah Ok, didn't know that this is for pics also, thank you for that info!
