Whoa... TruckBC. Now my feed feels like home.

This is pretty nuts! I've been in the dark all day so this is the first I'm hearing of it. That's some epic damage.

I'm here and I'm taking over running this Lemmy instance along with Shadow.

It's just like home, except I'm running part of running lemmy.ca instead.

Nice, maybe I'll try to create a Lemmy.ca account again at some point. My first attempt a while back disappeared into the ether.

If you have issues again don't hesitate to reach out. We need to know if there's issues or bugs

Nice to see TruckBC over here! Hi dude!

Well hello there!

Why is this happening so often? This is crazy.

My theory is that since COVID, the bar for how shitty/unprofessional a driver can be and continue to be employed has gone down significantly due to a severe and worsening shortage of drivers.

I know of one driver with 11 points on their license and zero class 1 driving experience that was hired by a reputable company recently. Another one with a rather fresh 2 month suspension and bunch of points got hired by a very reputable company too. Most companies used to want clean record, shady ones would be ok with 6-9 points. Now it's a free for all.

Industry is fucked.

I don't think truck drivers are getting the same caliber of training these days and there are lots of newbies. Too many trucking companies out there, if one goes bankrupt because of a accident like this a new one just pops up right in its place.

Accidentally leaving your PTO on and accidentally hitting the switch to raise the dump box, and not paying attention and not noticing your box is going up.

When I am dropping the air out of a tractor to decouple from a trailer the truck alarms to tell me the air is blowing out of the suspension.

Why don't these trucks have a warning system like that?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

They are supposed to. But I've heard from drivers in the dump truck industry that the alarms are often disabled by drivers because "they are annoying".

My tractor I can't dump the airbags if I'm going over 10km/h, can't release the 5th wheel slider if trailer parking brakes are released, and tons of other safety features.

@TruckBC strikes (a bridge) again! 😅

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Haha if I strike a bridge we've got some big big problems considering I drive tankers.

You definitely wouldn't want to meet an unfortunate end like these poor fellows in Pickering, Ontario

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How much can they fine the guy for damages?
