Until I saw the picture, I had so thoroughly forgotten about these that your title conjured no mental image.

I remember these mostly as soft drinks served at expensive restaurants as a way to keep the refill inclined riffraff out.

I think I also remember seeing them as mixers for bartenders at catered events, but I'm not a hundred percent sure on that one.

Those were fun to peel. I remember spending alot of time at dinner while my parents droned on talking bullshit while I tried to unravel it in one long piece.

Was it meant to isolate the bottles so the drink remains chill for an extended period? Never saw something like that.

That just made me realize that a local soda brand here (Dr. Enuf) had (very thin) Styrofoam labels for the longest time! They only recently changed them, and I knew something was different but couldn't quite put my finger on it

Coincidentally the company that makes Dr. Enuf also created Mountain Dew, then sold the brand to Pepsi
