I still remember a time when Layers of Fear was praised as a brilliant horror game, and I was fortunate enough to play it and become an open fan of it before the winds shifted and it became trendy to utterly despise this company and everything they touch.
I suppose my question is, when and how did this change of attitude in the gaming sphere at large happen? I am genuinely curious. I know that there have been recent reevaluations regarding how the company (mis)handles mental health representation, and that's fair, but just in terms of enjoyment of playing their games, I honestly can't bring myself to hate their stuff.
Layers of Fear is legitimately one of my favorite horror games of all time, and I really loved the atmosphere and story of Observer. I haven't played any others yet, so perhaps I'm just missing out on their worst stuff, but seriously... I was excited when I heard they were leading the SH2 remake project, but everyone around me is saying this is the worst thing in the world. The head of the company already said that they are no longer making walking simulators and that SH2 will have plenty of player agency and feel faithful to the original. What evidence is there that this is a lie?
