I've just revived a second elderly laptop by installing Zorin - slightly more complicated this time due to a stubborn Windows partition (I just took a deep breath and deleted it). I swear it's running faster now than ever. It's not quite ten years old, a Lenovo Ideapad, so I'm very pleased to have saved it from landfill. The other Zorin laptop is even older, it's a little Toshiba Satellite. I bought a new battery for it a few years back and it's still chuntering along. It's been through a few Linux distros and seems happy with Zorin.

Well done!

Old notebooks definitely deserve some love, as they are perfectly able to perform many useful tasks, even now, in the era of overpriced i9s and nvidia 4ks.

Thanks! I get such a buzz from it too, I feel like a genius, lol. Both these machines are capable, sturdy things, and I'm enjoying exploring the software on offer. I mostly use them when travelling, to edit and upload photos.

Linux also scratches an old itch - getting "close to the machine". Smart phones and modern PC software seems designed to keep you as far away from the "guts" of computing as possible. I miss the command line!
