Hi beer lovers. I'm just finishing a trip in Belgium and Amsterdam. I tried a lot of beers during my stay. I took notes.

While I'm sure I can find some/most of the beers I've tasted back home in Canada, I was wondering if there is an app, or a website, that can recommend other beer based on my own tastes. Like, if I rate the beer I drink based on my tastes, the engine could recommend other beers of a cumuler kind and taste.

I've been searching such a tool for half an hour and I didn't find anything that resembles this.

All the beer apps I've found so far were to rate beer, and find local places where they sell your favourite beer. I want to discover new beers.

Any suggestions?

I don’t know of any tool like that but would be cool to see. Especially if it had a region aspect so I can see beers available in my local area.

Belgian beers are tricky. The categories are extremely vague and applied just so it can be classified somehow. For example Belgian pale ale covers such a wide range of flavors it is almost meaningless as a a guide other than the beer will have some Belgian characteristics.

If you have a local brewery you could saddle up to the bar and pick their minds. They may not make what you want but they could point you towards places that retail what you want.

Exactly right? I don't want a website to recommend me another Belgian pale ale. I want any beer that taste kinda like the Belgian pale ale I just drank and loved.

But I get you. You know when you taste a beer and you're like "Ok this reminds me of beer X". That's the kind of recommendation I'd like from an app.

Because yeah, I could go to a local microbrewery. But I don't. Lol. It's not the kinda of thing I do. I just want to buy a beer and try it at home.

I have never seen such a tool, but that sounds like a neat idea.

I'd suggest instead you look for the style of beers you enjoyed over there to find new beers. Was it Belgian ales? Witbier? Maybe a Bock, or something darker like a Dunkelweisen?

There are lots of different styles, and most microbreweries make a few different ones. Frankly, there's never been a better time to find new beers, I'm always seeing new ones in the stores.

The Untappd app {https://lemmy.world/c/untappd} [email protected] has a basic recommendation function. Talking with the founding CTO about it a few years ago it is rather rudimentary in the suggestions: "You liked this stout, here are other stouts that are highly rated." That being said, I have enjoyed many of the suggestions it had so YMMV.

Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn't work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: [email protected]
