Yea unfortunately this seems like it might be the only solution to the problem. It's such a weird issue because the logic we use seemingly makes perfect sense but I guess it doesn't to Lemmy.

We try to use the language of the post or comment you are responding to (i.e. if the language of the post is English, the reply will use the same language). But then there are cases where the language is set to undefined and Lemmy feels fine letting the post be made with the undefined language, but it won't let you make a comment with undefined.

This problem happened on the community [email protected] with a comment I wrote in Dutch.

I'm having problems at that community too, even though my languages are set to "undefined" "English" and "Nederlands". I wonder which other language I have to choose.. Utregs maybe?

Well I don't have this issue through the web interface where I can select the language the comment is in, which I can't do in memmy.

I'm using wefwef/Voyager. It says I should select the appropriate language setting in my profile settings (which I have), but it still prevents me from replying. Don't have this in any other community.

You’re telling me a Dutch subreddit said you can’t speak Dutch.

Bruh.

If I use the web interface I can select he language and post just fine, it's just in memmy that I often can't post there.
